Beach Tent Prices Could Mega-Jump

That sea of tents on the Wildwood beach  during the summer for events like Boy and Girl Scout Beach Jam, Beach Blast Soccer, the monster truck event, and the motorcross races is going to cost the events’ organizers a pretty penny more, under a current proposal before Wildwood City Council that would raise the current $35 fee they pay to $1,500 for a one-day event, and $2,500 for a three-day event, which is    the maximum allowed.

The thinking in City Council is that the events’ organizers, Morey’s Piers among them, should foot more of the expense related to the beach’s upkeep, even though they are responsible for beach maintenance during the events. Otherwise, most of the annual $1.5 million spent keeping the beaches clean and guarded, falls on the backs of taxpayers, even though the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) kicks in $225,000 toward Wildwood, North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest beach maintenance.
