After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the doors of Bucket Brigade Brewery for good on January 26th. For the past 7 years, your support, passion, and friendship have meant the world to us—we can’t thank you enough for the memories we’ve shared and the community we’ve built together.

Over the last two years, it’s been clear that Bucket Brigade has evolved under Karl’s son Karlson’s leadership as head brewer. In just a year and a half, he’s earned 15 awards and taken the brewery to bold, exciting places. But with those changes came growing pains, and ultimately, Bucket Brigade Brewery wasn’t able to adapt as a brand to keep pace with Karlson’s innovative direction.

While this marks the end of Bucket Brigade, we’re excited for what’s next: Karlson will be taking over our building and launching his own venture, **Obscura Brewing Co.** Inspired by his love of pushing boundaries and exploring the unknown, Obscura Brewing Co. captures Karlson’s spirit of innovation—and with his stellar track record, we have no doubt it’s going to be something truly special.

Mark your calendars for March 6th, when Obscura Brewing Co. opens its doors for a soft opening party and AC Beer Fest ticket event. We’re thrilled to see Karlson carry on the tradition of great beer and a welcoming atmosphere—just with a fresh, new twist.

In the meantime, we’re holding a blowout sale at Bucket Brigade through January 26th. Enjoy Karlson’s outstanding beers at a fraction of the cost—mix-and-match a case of any packs for just $25. Stock up, reminisce, and toast these final days of the Bucket as we close this chapter.

We invite you to stop by, share your favorite stories, and say goodbye to Bucket Brigade in person. If you’d like to claim any donated memorabilia, please coordinate with Karl Sr directly.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us make the last 7 years so unforgettable. We’re sad to say farewell to Bucket Brigade, but we’re equally excited to see Karlson forge a new path with Obscura Brewing Co. Cheers, and we hope to raise a glass with you soon!

High electric bills have been a significant concern for residents in South Jersey recently. Several factors have contributed to the surge in electricity costs:

  1. Rate Increases: Atlantic City Electric (ACE) implemented a 13% supply rate increase and a 5% distribution rate increase on June 1st, 20242. These increases are intended to cover the costs of electricity supply and infrastructure improvements.
  2. Extreme Weather: The summer of 2024 was one of the hottest on record, leading to higher electricity usage for cooling.
  3. Smart Meters: Some customers have reported higher bills after the installation of new smart meters, although ACE has stated there is no direct correlation.

Congressman Jeff Van Drew has been actively seeking answers and solutions to these high bills. He has called for an independent audit of ACE’s billing systems and a freeze on rate increases until the investigation is complete.\

The sand-sharing situation between Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, and North Wildwood has become quite contentious. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed a plan to borrow sand from the sand-rich beaches of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest to replenish the sand-poor beaches of North Wildwood. However, both Wildwood and Wildwood Crest have expressed concerns about this plan.

Wildwood and Wildwood Crest argue that their wide beaches are essential for hosting events and supporting the local economy. They also worry about potential ecological disruptions and the impact on beach accessibility. Wildwood Crest, in particular, has raised alarms about the construction of a new dune within their existing dunes, which could affect vital habitats for numerous species.

North Wildwood, on the other hand, is in dire need of sand to maintain its beaches and protect against coastal erosion. The mayors of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest have voiced their concerns, but the need for sand in North Wildwood remains a pressing issue.

It’s a complex situation with valid points on both sides, and finding a solution that satisfies all parties involved will be challenging.

In a surprising turn of events, the Philadelphia 76ers have decided to abandon their plans to build a new arena in Center City. Instead, they will remain at the South Philadelphia sports complex. This decision comes after a deal was struck with Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Wells Fargo Center where the Sixers currently play.

The initial plan was to construct a $1.3 billion arena at 10th and Market streets, but the project faced significant opposition and concerns about its impact on the surrounding neighborhoods, particularly Chinatown. Despite receiving approval from the Philadelphia City Council, the team has opted to stay in South Philly and potentially build a new arena there in partnership with Comcast Spectacor.

This move has been met with mixed reactions. Some city officials and residents are relieved, while others feel disappointed and “bamboozled” by the sudden change. The decision also means that the planned redevelopment of the Market East area will need to be re-evaluated

Amidst rumors of the Ferris wheel and carousel at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier being up for sale, developer Eustace Mita has clarified that these iconic symbols are not part of the sale. Despite plans for a luxurious hotel on the former amusement park site, Mita reassured the public that the Ferris wheel, carousel, and wet boats are not on the market.

Initially included on a for-sale list at a trade show in Orlando, Florida, the carousel and Ferris wheel were meant to attract attention, according to Mita. However, following the confusion, Mita promptly removed them from the list.

With details of a 36-foot Bertazzon Double Deck Carousel and a Fabbri Ferris Wheel circulating, prices for various amusement park items ranged from $8,000 to $390,000 on the list. Despite the speculations, the carousel and Ferris wheel remain off the market.

As the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Exhibition and Conference unfolds in Orlando, the preservation of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier’s iconic attractions remains a topic of conversation.

North Wildwood and the state Department of Environmental Protection are on the cusp of settling their long-standing legal battle over unauthorized coastal reinforcement projects. Mayor Patrick Rosenello revealed that a proposed settlement has been drafted, signaling an end to the costly litigation that taxpayers have been funding. Under the terms of the agreement, the city will pay $1.7 million to resolve $12.8 million in fines issued by the DEP for unapproved work. North Wildwood has also agreed to dismiss its $21 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against the DEP and make changes to coastal structures, such as reconfiguring a section of bulkhead near Fifth Avenue and removing the Lou Booth Amphitheatre. Additionally, the city will plant vegetation in specific areas and allocate funds for shore protection efforts. While there are no new commitments from the state regarding shore protection projects, eliminating the legal dispute paves the way for joint projects with the DEP, including a seawall extension and the Five Mile Dune project. The settlement was facilitated by Governor Phil Murphy’s intervention, which led to a dredging project that replenished sand along the island. The mayor emphasized the importance of prioritizing shore protection for North Wildwood and expressed optimism about the fair and significant resolution achieved through the settlement.

The City of North Wildwood is undergoing a transformation with a new ordinance that aims to reshape its development landscape by prohibiting hotels and motels as permitted or conditional uses. This decision comes in response to a trend of declining construction of new hotels and motels, coupled with the conversion of existing properties into condominiums.

Mayor Patrick T. Rosenello highlighted the need for this change, emphasizing that the original intent of land use regulations was for hotels and motels to operate as single business entities, not individual units owned by residents. The ordinance, which amends Chapter 276 of the North Wildwood City Code, prohibits hotels and motels as permitted and conditional uses across all zoning districts. This regulation applies to existing properties and new developments, aiming to address enforcement challenges associated with converted properties.

Moving forward, developers seeking to construct new hotels or motels must demonstrate to the Planning Board that the facility will operate as a single business entity for transient use. This measure is designed to uphold the purpose of transient lodging and promote cohesive, business-run entities in the hospitality sector.

It is important to note that this ordinance does not apply to the North Wildwood marina area, where the Ocean Bay Spires project is still in progress. While the city is evolving, this ban on motels and hotels signifies a new chapter in North Wildwood’s development.

Shore Eats has closed its North Wildwood location just nine months after opening. The eatery quickly became a beloved spot for both locals and tourists, particularly fans of its original location in Cape May Court House. Although the North Wildwood branch is no longer in operation, you can still savor their delicious food at the Cape May Court House location.

Breaking news is that they are opening a NEW shop, Court House Bagel at Rt 147 and Rt 9 that was formerly Belly Busters. We talked to the owner, and he told us that they pride their selves on crafting the finest bagels, made fresh daily with love and care. Their secret recipe combines the perfect blend of ingredients to create bagels that are crispy on the outside and delightfully chewy on the inside. Whether you prefer classic flavors like plain, sesame, and poppy seed, or crave something more adventurous like everything, cinnamon raisin, or jalapeño cheddar, they’ve got a bagel to satisfy every palate.

Opening soon!

The demolition of Via Mare Ristorante in Avalon has left patrons reminiscing about the cherished memories and delectable meals they enjoyed at the iconic Italian eatery. Giulia Perricci, who founded the restaurant with her late husband Vito Perricci, recalls the warm and familial atmosphere that made Via Mare a beloved dining destination for 34 years.

Giulia and Vito’s journey from Italian farmers to successful restaurateurs captivated the hearts of their customers, who were not only impressed by Vito’s culinary skills but also enchanted by Giulia’s vibrant personality. The walls of Via Mare were adorned with family photos and signed memorabilia from celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti, showcasing the Perriccis’ dedication and passion for their craft.

Following the closure of Via Mare in 2024 and the subsequent sale of the property to developer Thomas Welsh, Avalon residents expressed concern over the increasing trend of restaurants being replaced by residential developments. Despite the changing landscape of the town, many cherished the unique dining experiences and sense of community fostered by establishments like Via Mare.

Giulia Perricci’s decision to retire and close the restaurant was met with mixed emotions, as loyal customers took to social media to share their fond memories and express their gratitude for the exceptional dining experiences at Via Mare. While Avalon’s culinary scene may undergo transformations in the future, the legacy of Via Mare and the Perricci family’s dedication to hospitality will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who had the privilege of dining at the renowned establishment.

Floss Stingel, known as the voice of “Watch the Tram Car Please” on the Wildwood Boardwalk for more than 50 years, has filed a lawsuit against Wildwood Tram Car Operators for “Misappropriation of likeness & unjust enrichment.”

In a fascinating turn of events, Floss Stingel’s voice has become synonymous with the Wildwood tram cars, echoing the iconic phrase “Watch the tram car, please,” since 1971. This recording, made as a favor to a tram car mechanic, has unexpectedly woven itself into the fabric of Wildwood’s history and culture. However, Stingel’s goodwill has led to a legal battle, as she claims her voice has been used without consent, benefiting the tram operators financially while leaving her uncompensated. This case highlights the complexities of intellectual property and the importance of consent in the use of personal contributions to public domains.

The iconic SS United States, once hailed as “America’s Flagship,” is now set to begin a new chapter below the ocean’s surface. With the ship facing an uncertain future, the SS United States Conservancy has secured a groundbreaking agreement with Okaloosa County, in Florida’s coastal Panhandle region.

The ambitious plan involves turning the vessel into an artificial reef, expanding the county’s network of over 500 reefs that already attract scuba divers, fishermen, and marine enthusiasts. This initiative aims to boost local tourism by offering a one-of-a-kind diving experience, allowing adventurers to explore the immense ship as it transforms into a flourishing underwater ecosystem.

Local businesses, including scuba shops, charter fishing boats, and hotels, are anticipated to benefit from an influx of visitors. Experts predict that the SS United States reef could generate millions of dollars annually in tourism revenue.

The project is a blend of innovation and nostalgia, as the legendary ocean liner will be sunk while also preserving its legacy through a forthcoming museum on land. Before the vessel is submerged, it will be towed to Norfolk for preparations, during which specific items will be removed for display in the future museum.

Although the museum is in its early stages of planning, SS United States Conservancy President Susan Gibbs hinted in an interview with CBS News that iconic parts of the ship, like the funnels and radar mast, could be featured. The Wildwood Video Archive obtained a copy of the sales agreement with Okaloosa County, detailing some of the items to be salvaged for the museum.

These salvaged items include the builder’s plate, propellers, bridge equipment, bars, signage samples, and much more. While the funnels are not explicitly listed, there is a provision in the agreement for their removal and potential use in a future museum or memorial.

The new owners have committed to contributing $1 million towards the development of the museum, with a deadline of twelve months to formulate a plan. The initial towing of the SS United States, originally scheduled for October 25th, has been postponed to a later date.

As the ship makes its journey to Norfolk, Virginia, we eagerly anticipate capturing footage of its passage under the Walt Whitman Bridge. Stay tuned for updates on this historic project!

Pirates and pirate activity was not unknown to the Jersey Shore. Famous pirates such as Captain Kidd, or Edward Teech, more infamously known as Blackbeard, sailed the waters off the Jersey coast.

Did Captain Kidd really bury some of his treasure on Cape May County beaches? No one has ever found any of it if he did. At least, no one has ever admitted that they have found any of it. But that hasn’t stopped the legends from being told and retold about secret treasure chests lying somewhere beneath the sands. Documented reports note that there was, indeed, pirate activity here. In one instance, at least, a Governor Bass claimed to have “been credibly informed that Captain Kidd…had been seen and spoken to…” aboard a large sloop near Cape May. The Governor allegedly “saw the sloop himself when he went down to the Cape after other pirates” and would have attempted to capture it had it not “outsailed his vessel.”

At another time, a Captain Eli Barnett, keeper of the life-saving station at the north end of Wildwood – Holly Beach (today’s North Wildwood on 5 Mile Beach) witnessed an interesting excursion. Through his telescope, he spied a sailing vessel that dropped anchor offshore to allow some men to lower a boat and row ashore. Once landed and having gotten their bearings, these men “disappeared among the dunes. Sometime later, they reappeared on the beach, carrying a chest which they stowed in the yawl boat and returned to the ship. When they reached the ship, they hoisted the chest on board and sailed away.” Captain Kidd’s treasure? Maybe. Stories like this one led to much digging being done at Sea Grove (Cape May Point) many years ago. It was rumored that pirates’ buried treasure could be found there.

Captain Cornelius Mey discovered the Cape when he sailed around it in 1623. His vessel, the Blyde Broodschap (Glad Tidings) was on an exploratory expedition when he made his find.

Settled primarily by New England whaling men, the original village at Cape May was called “Town Bank.” It served as a small port and a base of operations in the Delaware Bay for the whaling industry.

Cape May is centered between the Atlantic Ocean on its eastern coast and the Delaware Bay on its western shoreline. This made the cape extremely popular as a stopping point for many vessels preparing a lengthy eastward journey through the Spanish Main to Europe. Vessels would stop here to take on ammunition, fresh water, food-stores and livestock. As vessel traffic increased to the port, so did the population. Primarily a swampy and marsh area, pirates soon learned the value of its natural hiding places along the bay.

As the Delaware Bay served as the entry point to the ports of Philadelphia, heavily laden and slow moving ships would begin their long journeys into the channel. Pirates who had hidden their sloops and penances in the marshy reeds would wait for the appropriate moment to strike quickly at these vessels and plunder their goods.

Another legendary group of bandits that roamed the shores of cape May were the “Mooncussers.” These crafty rogues would form a line of horses along the beach and hang lanterns from the saddles. On dark and moonless nights, when navigation in the bay was difficult, vessels would see the row of lights upon the shore. Thinking it was another ship; they would attempt to come alongside to assist in navigation. Instead the vessels would run aground; at which the Mooncussers would launch small boats from the shore and row out to plunder the stranded vessels. They were so-called, as their crafty plan could not be successful on moonlit nights.

There is evidence to support that Blackbeard, Captain Kidd and Stede Bonnet buried treasure in and around Cape May. One popular site believed to be the resting place of some of Blackbeard’s treasure is Higby’s Beach. However as the shoreline has suffered tremendous erosion, the area is now Federally protected and thus digging is not permitted.

A sight believed to contain Captain Kidd’s treasure is in the area of Del Haven. Recently discovered maps and documents point to a site directly under a commercial professional complex of buildings. The treasure, if there at all, would be located beneath the concrete foundations of the structures.

Stede Bonnet’s treasure is believed to be buried along the Delaware Bay, perhaps as some sources indicate, in the vicinity north of the Cape May – Lewes Ferry Terminal. Though sources indicate it was buried near the original settlement of Town Bank, it could very well lie beneath the waves now as the village has been flooded by natural erosion.

From time to time coins wash up along the beach along with jewelry and occasionally a precious stone. Other items have been found as well that indicate a once strong pirate presence in the area. Cold Springs Village (located in Erma) offers a realistic view of life during these times.

The Wildwoods, NJ – April 10, 2024 – Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Water Parks, located in
Wildwood, NJ, just released its 2024 recruitment campaign highlighting a habit we’re all familiar
with—endless hours of thumb-scrolling through social media, when we could be spreading the
kindness in real life. Partnering with friend of the Piers, John Lynch, Morey’s is contributing up to $10,000 to the #ThumbsUp4Kindness cause as part of this year’s recruitment drive.

“At Morey’s Piers, we value giving back to our community and to our broader industry,” said
Denise Beckson, Vice President of Human Resources with Morey’s Piers. “I’m really excited we
are able to incorporate that philosophy into our recruiting campaign this season. It’s a perfect
fit — our jobs are unique and fun, but also considerate and kind — and we get to contribute
to and highlight community kindness with this initiative.”
John Lynch, the founder of Lunch with Lynch, added, “The Lunch with Lynch Foundation is
proud of its partnership with the Team at Morey’s Piers. Morey’s was one of our first local
businesses that jumped right on board with our organization that supports our local schools
and children! Our mission is Paying it Forward with Random Acts of Kindness and there is no
greater place to work at, that encourages its associates to Pay it Forward with Kindness as
they work on Piers and Water Parks.”

Morey’s launched the campaign with a $2500 donation, immediately reaching 25% of the
goal (as seen on the thumb-ometer in the above photo)! This year’s campaign uses various.
tactics to get prospective applicants’ attention, including billboards, social media ads, videos,
and large foam thumbs. The more interaction the campaign gets, the more Morey’s
contributes to John Lynch’s project. Visits to WorkMoreys.com, thumbs up on social media
posts (likes), shares and tagging @MoreysPiers all contribute to driving up the donation
thumb-ometer to reach the $10k goal.
Over the years, Morey’s has become well-known in the area for creating hiring campaigns.
that really stand out, slow the scroll, and get out-sized attention. Winning IAAPA Brass Ring

Awards for 2 years running, Morey’s recruitment campaigns are more than your average,
forgettable Now Hiring ads.
One Trick Pony is the ad agency behind Morey’s Piers thumb-er recruitment campaign.
“Typically, a hiring campaign isn’t going to be the most creative thing you get to work on –
but Morey’s is no typical client, and neither are their thumb-er jobs,” said Rob Reed, Partner
at One Trick Pony. “The campaign taps into thumb-thing we all have in common —too much
time wasted scrolling social, when we could be learning and earning at the beach.”
Morey’s hopes to fill 1,000 seasonal jobs available this summer. Applications are being
accepted in various departments, including Ride Operations, Lifeguards, Game Operators,
Food & Beverage, Servers, Bartenders, Admissions, and more. You must be at least 14 years of
age to work at Morey’s Piers. A limited number of positions are available for those under the
age of 18, and those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For additional
wage information and to apply online, visit www.workmoreys.com.
Mariner’s Pier opens on May 3, 2024. For more information on how you can work, learn, and
earn money at the beach, please visit www.workmoreys.com or email HR@moreyspiers.com.

Cheezy D’s Food Truck will open this May Serving gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

How it started:

Back in 2016 my Wife and I were attending a Relay for Life Event in PA for a dear friend. On our way back to NJ we stumbled upon a brewery having a food truck extravaganza event. We enjoyed the event so much I jokingly said to my wife, “WE SHOULD OPEN A FOOD TRUCK “That night we stopped at a local Pub , their menu had some unique spins on grilled cheese sandwiches. That JOKE from just a few hours ago combined with this delicious grilled cheese we were eating just became our subject of conversation that night. Having a restaurant background, a passion for cooking and brewing, and always wanting to own and operate my own food establishment or brewery,

it didn’t come as a surprise to Angela when I said:

“WE SHOULD OPEN A GRILLED CHEESE FOOD TRUCK AND CALL IT”

Cheezy D’s

Throughout the years we would reminisce about that day and the Cheezy D concept, never thinking it would actually come to fruition. Looking back, even though we would laugh about it, I think we both knew it was a good idea…. Well, here we are 8 years later, ready to serve a variety of the most delicious gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

We look forward to seeing and serving you at our next event.

Dean & Angela

Meyers Brewing Company of Philadelphia is pleased to announce they will be opening a sister location in Ocean View, NJ called Meyers Lighthouse Brewing Company. The official opening date is slated for May 2024 and will be announced in the next few weeks.

Located on Rt. 9 in the town of Ocean View, a quarter mile north of Sea Isle Blvd., Meyers Lighthouse Brewing will feature a taproom as well as outdoor seating and a mini golf course. The brewery will serve a variety of beer styles such as hazy IPAs, sours, stouts, and more. Meyers Lighthouse Brewing will focus on bringing exciting, high-quality beer to the Ocean View area and contributing to the vibrant culture of the community.

Meyers Brewing Company was founded by Mike Meyers in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia in 2021. Meyers converted an 1800s carriage house into the brewery and has been serving quality beer ever since. Meyers Brewing creates a warm, comfortable space and serves delicious beer crafted on site, as well as cider, wine and spirits. At the end of 2023 Meyers acquired a mini golf course in Ocean View, designating this location for future expansion. No stranger to a rehab, he’s been working tirelessly to transform the space into a brewery and taproom. The mini golf course will reopen alongside the brewery as a separate business on the property. As a resident of Ocean City, Meyers wants to share his brand of hospitality, good vibes and great beers with family and friends at the Jersey Shore.

Meyers Lighthouse Brewing also reintroduces a local brewer to the area. Originally from Tuckahoe, Andrew Swanson moved to Somers Point and now resides in Upper Township. Swanson has been brewing professionally since 2017 and in 2020 graduated from the American Brewers Guild Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering course while serving as head brewer at Swedesboro Brewing Company. Swanson has been head of brewing at Meyers Brewing in Fishtown since March 2023.

Meyers Lighthouse Brewing looks forward to serving the local community as well as vacationers at the Jersey Shore. With 12 taps in the tasting room and ample outdoor seating, it is sure to be a destination for craft beer enthusiasts!

RESTORATION OF HIGBEE BEACH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA
428-ACRE SECTION CLOSURE NOW IN EFFECT AS SITE PREPARATION BEGINS

$37.5 million ecological restoration project at the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area in Cape May County.

The area near Sunset Beach where the ghost train tracks are is part of the area. This closure will not affect the parking lot behind Sunset Beach Gifts located on Sunset Boulevard. However, the parking lot across from the World War II Lookout Tower will be closed.

Once finished, the area will have new trails and bird observation platforms like the area near the Cape May lighthouse.

Portions of the wildlife management area, situated on Delaware Bay at the southernmost tip of the state, closed Monday, Jan. 29 for site preparation work. The meeting at the Lower Township Municipal Building will give the public an opportunity to learn more about the closure and construction schedule, as well as the benefits the Pond Creek Restoration Project will have for wildlife and ecosystems in this ecologically important area of the state.

The project, to be implemented by A.P. Construction of Philadelphia, will enhance wildlife habitats and re-establish tidal flow to the property’s marshes. The DEP anticipates that a 428-acre section of the wildlife management area will remain closed until approximately December 2026.

The closure will ensure public safety and protect and preserve the land and water areas of the 1,160-acre wildlife management area. Construction is anticipated to begin immediately following preparation work that includes fencing, signage, erosion prevention measures and site dewatering.

“We are excited to work together with other programs within DEP to restore this portion of Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area to maximize wildlife benefits and public access,” said Assistant Commissioner for Fish & Wildlife David Golden. “Once completed, the site will have a new trail network and multiple wildlife viewing platforms integrated into enhanced stopover habitat for migrating species. It will surely be one of New Jersey’s best wildlife viewing destinations.”

The Pond Creek Marsh Restoration site consists of the former Harbison-Walker magnesite facility and associated landfill, Davey’s Lake and most of the Pond Creek marsh. The plant extracted magnesium from seawater.

The main project goal is to re-establish tidal inundation to a large portion of Pond Creek Marsh without increasing flood risk to the upper watershed or inundating the eastern freshwater marsh area while allowing for habitat management of the northern marsh area.

Achieving these goals will require modifying the inlet channel to allow sufficient tidal flushing, developing a network of secondary and tertiary channels to assist tidal flow into the interior of the marsh, excavating deep flood pools for fish habitat and creating upland islands for shorebirds.

An earthen berm will also be constructed around much of the perimeter of the marsh, which will provide access to wildlife observation blinds and contribute to a trail system encircling the marsh.

The Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area is managed by NJDEP Fish & Wildlife for its value to endangered, threatened and nongame wildlife. It features 1.5 miles of pristine shoreline and has a blend of several habitat types, including dunes, forest, scrub and early successional fields.

The restored wetland project area will provide foraging and loafing habitat for raptors, such as osprey, peregrine falcons, merlins, kestrels, cooper hawks and sharp-shinned hawks during their migratory season. It also will increase food, shelter and general habitat for numerous species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

The project is funded with Natural Resource Damage funds and co-led by DEP’s Office of Natural Resource Restoration and Office of Coastal Engineering in partnership with Fish & Wildlife.

For a comprehensive project description and updated project schedule, visit the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area Tidal Marsh/Upland Restoration Project page.

North Wildwood – On Friday, January 19th, on behalf of the City of North Wildwood, the Lomax
Consulting Group submitted an Emergency Authorization (EA) request to the New Jersey
Department of Environmental Protection, asking to approve the installation of a cantilevered steel
bulkhead between mid-block of 12th & 13th Avenues to 15th Avenue.

The EA request comes following coastal storm events that occurred on January 9th and January
13th, which caused further significant erosion to the beach berm and what was remaining of the
dune system at this location. During the latter storm, the ocean wave action caused a breach in the
dune between 13th and 14th Avenues. The tide ran up beyond the breach, resulting in more damage
to the dune and now the vegetated areas behind the dune.

With a breach to the dune, the City feels that future storms could pose a more significant threat to
the City, its infrastructure, and public and private properties. The purpose of the EA request is to
ultimately prevent the possibility of any damage to properties or infrastructure.
The proposed bulkhead would run approximately 752 linear feet, spanning the length between
mid-block of 12th& 13th Avenues to 15th Avenue, connecting the currently constructing bulkheads
at those locations. The top of the bulkhead will be at elevation 12.0 feet, and will be capped with
boardwalk-style decking.
For additional information, please contact (609) 522-6464.

I went to the North Wildwood’s Beach yesterday. From 12th Street north the dunes are all but gone but the beach looks great. We saw one person sitting in a beach chair enjoying the day on the North Wildwood Beach. Now, from 13th Street South the dunes are being eroded with sand walls about 15-20ft.

So, I was thinking about when I was 13 years old and use to ride through the construction when they were building 1900 and I remember there was the original bulkhead behind the building. Today I went there and sure enough the original bulkhead is still there. So, 1900 was built on the beach in front of the original bulkhead. So, then I went and looked at the next street and sure enough, there is more original bulkhead behind the Montego Bay and Little Nicky’s. Most people don’t even know about this original bulkhead.

Old post cards from the 1930’s-40’s show the old bulkhead with nothing built in front of it. There was just a boardwalk and sand up to the bulkhead. Today, most of North Wildwood beaches are larger than they have ever been, but from 2nd street to about 6th street the beach at high tide is not there.

When I was kid the ocean at 22nd street came under the boardwalk, and we had to sit in the street next to the boardwalk ramp. Today the water never comes close how far it came up in the 60’s and 70’s.

According to published reports North Wildwood will not have any beach replenishment in 2023. The FAKE dunes are eroding. (NOT the beach). So, what you might find out is that without the FAKE dunes the beach (which is under the dunes) may not have much erosion. Time will tell!

When a storm comes, you might see water in the streets on the beachside but nothing as bad as the bay side flooding. What makes the homes on the beachside any better than the homes on the bayside? The answer is NOTHING! So, instead of paying millions year after year for beach replenishment, the homeowners on the beach side may have to pay more for their flood insurance. If you want to live in paradise and live by the water, then you have to pay the cost associated with living by the ocean! After all, it’s an island!

Advertising your business on the Wildwood Boardwalk, Ed Peahota is the guy you want to contact for advertising on The Sun Shelters you see all along the boardwalk from 17th Ave down past the Convention Center to Cresse Ave. Ed has done some really cool things with the advertisements he designed on the Sun Shelters over the years, As a matter of fact it was Ed and I and Tim Blute who managed to get the photo together to feature Lady Toni on one of the advertisements on the Sun Shelters some years back you may remember, He had on one side of the Sun Shelter an advertisement with a photo of young ladies with the caption “Love Wildwood” and the other side was a photo of our special Lady Toni with the same caption “Love Wildwood” which really shinned a light on her!, There were a number of stories done about her because of the Boardwalk advertisement, that was a nice thing we were able to do.

Ed Peahota has been involved in outdoor advertising over 40 years he even hand painted Frank Sinatra on billboards for the casinos his experience goes back that far, as an artist he has performed in Wildwood doing speed painting shows with live bands and he and his wife were two of the artist featured on Morey’s Piers Artbox he really is an expert when it comes to getting your business advertised and seen by millions of people and bringing your business potential new customers.

He even represents the advertisements you see on the Tramcars.

This is my first blog post for 2024! I decided in 2023 that I would start blogging again, a few times a week.

So, what’s happening in the Wildwoods for 2024? More than I could ever write in one blog post but here are just a few.

Yesterday ( 1/3/2024) I attended the swearing in of The Wildwoods new mayor, Ernie Troiano Jr, who was the mayor for 20 years. Also sworn in were re-elected commissioners Steve Mikulski and Krista Fitzsimmons.

I went up to check on the boardwalk reconstruction and they are moving right along with most of the section between Oak and Cedar completed. The section extending down Cedar Ave is totally gone and will be completely rebuilt.

Some current business news is, The Cove bar and restaurant went up for sale, Pompeo’s restaurant is now up for rent and so is The White Dolphin restaurant, both located on the boardwalk. The former Eleanor’s Gifts located at Oak and the boardwalk is also up for rent. The new pet store “Sandy Paws” that just opened this past summer has also closed. My advice for anyone looking to open a business at the Jersey Shore, do your homework. “Build it and they will come” does not apply with most seasonal businesses.

The beach in North Wildwood took a beating this winter and the city installed a new steel bulkhead around the lifeguard station to save it from storms.

There is so much going on in The Wildwoods right now we will have a lot to blog about this year. There is no place in the world like The Wildwoods! I am looking forward to seeing the town fill up with visitors in a few months. 2024 is going to be a great summer to spend in The Woods!

Look for my next blog post coming soon! Thanks for following me and my team! Tony Deutsch

Big news coming for The Wildwoods in 2014. I will start blogging 3 times a week starting on January 1st here on watchthetramcarplease.com

There is so much going on in The Wildwoods with new buildings going up all  over the island, boardwalk reconstruction and new businesses opening. I want to keep our fans informed daily on the changes happening in The Wildwoods.

When I first started this webpage I blogged every week and our fans loved it, but social media took off after a few years and I put my focus on our social media pages.

I decided that every week, in one post a week I will try and talk about something you won’t see on social media. The difference between us and other Wildwood social media pages is the fact that I live here. That’s why we’re the #1 SOURCE for news and info from The Wildwoods.

I want to thank our 206,000 followers and the millions we have reached with our content over the past 11 years.

Please join me starting January 1st for my first post for 2024!

Weather you believe it or not, the answer is YES. It’s the only one in the garden state.

Not to worry, it’s not near the Jersey Shore it’s in Sussex County. It was active about 440 million years ago, it’s known as the Beemerville volcano.

There’s a road in Wantage, New Jersey called Volcanic Hill and like Sunset Drive, Ocean Boulevard or Main Street, it’s name identifies where it is.

Yes, Volcanic Hill Road leads to the top of a volcano in New Jersey.

In the quiet landscapes of Sussex County, New Jersey, lies an ancient volcanic relic known as the Beemerville Volcano, or Rutan Hill. This site, located about 2.46 miles south-southwest of Colesville in Wantage Township, unveils a dormant chapter of Earth’s fiery past within the confines of the Garden State.

Despite its tranquil present, this geological landmark hails from an era around 420 million years ago when volcanic activity was a part of New Jersey’s natural narrative. Though lacking a crater, the remnants of this volcano stretch over a substantial area, with eroded remains spanning over 1,500 feet in diameter, silently narrating tales of a bygone fiery temperament, replaced with single-family homes and green lawns.

The Wildwood boardwalk reconstruction project started a few weeks ago on phase 3. Now all work on the boardwalk reconstruction project has been stopped by a judge.

The issue is the second lowest bidder has filed suit. They believe they are low bidder. So, as of this post, the work on the Wildwood NJ boardwalk reconstruction has been completely stopped.

According to the court papers (we have obtained them) – The current contractor was awarded the contract improperly. The other contractor filed a complaint to stop the work on the boardwalk until it’s settled. We are going through the court pages one of the counts are that the current contract was unqualified and doing dangerous and faulty work. Why they were where chosen, is also a point of contention. This is a major lawsuit that may delay the construction of the boardwalk and may or may not disrupt the upcoming tourist season. If there are impropriety allegation or violation to the bidding process the cost to the taxpayer may be millions.

The City of Wildwood awarded the contract to Fred M. Schiavone Construction, Inc

The lawsuit says:

“Schiavone was not lawfully entitled to an award of the Project because either it failed to
name the subcontractor performing the Structural Steel Work or because Schiavone is not qualified
to self-perform such work. Feriozzi, as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, is entitled
to an award of the Project contract.
Feriozzi respectfully asks this Court to compel a recission of the award to Schiavone,
compel an award to Feriozzi, and, while this litigation is pending, temporarily and preliminarily.”

“Schiavone was the only bidder which did not list a structural steel and ornamental iron work
subcontractor. Copies of Schiavone’s List of Proposed Subcontractors, Feriozzi’s List of
Proposed Subcontractors, and Walter Marine Construction’s List of Proposed Subcontractors
are annexed hereto, respectively,”
