vents big and small are on the schedule this year for the Wildwoods Convention Center, which recently announced its upcoming events for the start of 2012.

Some meetings, like those planned for Veteran Vocations and the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce this month, are not open to the public, but there are a number of open events planned, including some for which thousands of visitors are expected.

On Jan. 14 is the Polar Bear Plunge (see related story), while a health screening is planned Jan. 17.

The Boardwalk Kennel Club all breed dog show kicks off February, running from Feb. 1 to 5. Next up that month is the South Jersey Wrestling Association middle school challenge, followed by the Northeast Futsal Regional Championship.

Futsal comes from the Portuguese futebol de salão, a version of indoor soccer played on a smaller field which started in South America.

The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Pines start things off in March with “Passports Around the World” on March 3, which is expected to draw 800 people. Several thousand are expected for the Cheer Tech cheerleading competition March 9 through 11, and a health and fitness expo is set for March 24, to be presented by the Ocean Drive Run Club.

On March 25, the spring bridal fair will be presented by the Convention Center and the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce, and the Spring Sports Festival basketball finals are set to close out the month, March 31 through April 1, presented by Special Olympics New Jersey.
