Wildwood City Fire Department called to boat fire at 5100 Lake Rd. See more photos

On Wednesday afternoon at 13:55 hours the Wildwood City Fire Department’s Squad Co. 3, under the command of Capt. Matt Johnson, was dispatched to the area of 5100 Lake Rd. for the report of a boat fire in the marina.

Wildwood Police Department Patrolmen arrived on scene and reported that the boat was dry docked in a lot in the 400 West block of Leaming Ave. Upon arrival, units found a female who appeared to have jumped from the burning boat suffering from burns to both of her legs. Chief Speigel requested a medic unit and a helicopter for the burn victim, who was treated and flown to Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

The alarm was immediately upgraded to an “All Hands” assignment before going to two alarms due to the fire extending to two adjacent boats and a dwelling. Due to the quick actions of the first arriving company, only minor interior damage was sustained to the exposure building. Units remained on scene assisting the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office with the investigation until 16:43 hours. The cause is still under investigation at this time.

Assisting on scene were companies from the North Wildwood Fire Department, Wildwood Crest Fire Company, Rio Grande Fire Company, Stone Harbor Fire Department, Green Creek Fire Company, Wildwood Police Department, and the Wildwood Crest Police Department.

Job well done by all involved.
