Cape May County Pushes for Real Beach Funding Relief in North Wildwood

North Wildwood just got a major boost in the fight against erosion. Cape May County’s Board of Commissioners has thrown its weight behind a new federal plan that could finally bring steady, long‑term funding to protect our shoreline.

The board voted unanimously to support Congressman Jeff Van Drew’s Coastal Trust Fund Act, a bill that would create a permanent federal fund dedicated to beach renourishment and coastal storm protection. Instead of relying on year‑to‑year requests and political wrangling, this fund would give towns like North Wildwood a reliable source of support.

For years, many Jersey Shore communities have received federal beach projects — but the Wildwoods have been left waiting. North Wildwood’s long‑promised replenishment still hasn’t broken ground, even as erosion and storm damage continue to escalate.

County leaders say the current system is unpredictable and slow, leaving vulnerable beaches exposed while costs climb. A dedicated trust fund could finally change that, giving North Wildwood the stability it needs to protect its coastline for the long haul.
