WILDWOOD – The City of Wildwood has been awarded a Small Cities Community Block Grant (CDBG) from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA) in the amount of $400,000.00. The funds will be used to construct an ADA compliant pedestrian / bike ramp from the beach to the Boardwalk at Cresse Avenue. The project is part of a collaborative effort with Wildwood Crest to link their bike path and walkway with the Wildwood’s Boardwalk.

Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr. was informed of the award by a letter from NJDCA Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable, III. The funds will enable the City to fully comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“I’m very excited to be able to team up with Wildwood Crest on this project,” said Mayor Troiano. “It will create a safe and friendly walking and biking environment for our residents and visitors as they transition from Wildwood Crest into Wildwood at the Boardwalk.”
Wildwood Crest is contributing $200,000.00 of their Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) funds to the project, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation had granted $290,000.00 to add to the project through their New Jersey Bikeways Grant Program. When complete, it will include an ADA compliant pedestrian / bike ramp on the east side of the Boardwalk and decorative items in the area of the improvements. A new entrance staircase will be also included at the base of the Boardwalk. The engineering firm, Van Note-Harvey, have completed the design work and project is scheduled to go out to bid soon, with completion anticipated for the summer tourist season.
“This project is a good example of what can be accomplished when two communities work together cooperatively to achieve a common goal,” said Troiano. “Wildwood and Wildwood Crest collaborated to make this happen for the benefit of the entire island and our visitors.
