Earthquake hits Freehold, NJ at 2 am. The 3.1 earthquake was felt across the state, Philadelphia and Long Island.

 Just before 2 a.m. this morning residents of Freehold, NJ were shaken by a magnitude 3.1 earthquake according to the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A rare occurrence as numerous reports of shaking have been reported across the state and in New York City and across social media.

Hundreds of people as far away as Philadelphia and Long Island have reported feeling light shaking but no reported damage. 

The USGS said the earthquake was centered 1.25 miles (2 kilometers) south, southeast of the center of East Freehold, NJ  just before 2 a.m
