Located in the Back Bay towards West Spicer Avenue, the former Wildwood landfill has been a neglected eyesore for years. However, the city has made significant progress in transforming this area into a beautiful public space and habitat. Schiavone Construction has been awarded a contract for environmental restoration, including planting native trees and shrubs and installing erosion control measures. Perna Construction will handle stormwater management improvements to protect the site and surrounding areas.
These contracts are part of a larger project that includes capping the landfill and making it suitable for long-term use. While some public-facing improvements are pending approval, the project is expected to bring new recreational opportunities to the area. With the work underway, the Wildwood landfill project is on track to become a major redevelopment effort along the waterfront.
As the project continues to progress, it’s clear that the transformation of the Wildwood landfill will have a positive impact on the community. Once completed, it will be a popular spot for watching sunsets and enjoying the waterfront.
