NORTH WILDWOOD—At the City Council meeting here on Feb. 7, a resolution was passed unanimously to recognize March 2012 as Irish-American Heritage Month in North Wildwood.
The resolution was the answer to a request made jointly by the Cape May County Police and Fire Emerald Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Anglesea Irish Society.
The number of members of these local organizations confirms that many of the City’s residents are Irish Americans, some Police Officers and Firefighters, and many from other walks of life. Some own second homes here, and others have retired here, still others are lifelong members of the community.
A letter written by Emerald Society President Chuck Meissler and signed by leaders of all four Irish organizations was read at the meeting by Joe Rullo, President of the Anglesea Irish Society. It expressed their appreciation to Mayor Bill Henfey and Council for making the proclamation.
