A bold idea to bring an all-outdoor bar to the edge of Ottens Harbor was shut down by a single vote at the November 10th Wildwood Planning/Zoning Board meeting. The proposed venue—dubbed The Open Container—would’ve featured a converted shipping container bar, food trailer, picnic tables, and porta-potties.
Local resident and business owner Richard Hoff pitched the concept, promising upgrades if the business succeeded. But concerns from nearby residents—including noise, lack of permanent structures, trash, and safety near the water—ultimately swayed the board.
While two members supported giving the idea a trial run, the majority felt the setup didn’t fit Park Blvd’s character, especially with portable toilets in the mix.
📍 Verdict: No go for now—but the conversation around creative outdoor spaces in Wildwood is far from over.
