Wildwood Police Prevent Fourth of July Takeover Event and Charge Teen Promoter

On the Fourth of July, Wildwood police successfully thwarted a planned takeover event on their boardwalk and charged a teenager from Pennsylvania with promoting the gathering. The police department was informed about the event, which was also referred to as pop-up parties, by NJ Transit Police earlier that day.

Despite initial challenges identifying the promoter and getting the event canceled, Wildwood detectives, along with assistance from the New Jersey State Police, were able to take action by moving officers to the boardwalk and notifying businesses in the area where the event was supposed to occur. They even had a photo of a man believed to be the organizer.

Throughout the evening, police dispersed several small groups and eventually apprehended the 19-year-old from Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, who was charged with creating a disturbance at a public gathering. Police Chief Joseph Murphy commended the efforts of his officers and stated that any individuals planning disruptive or unlawful activities in Wildwood will be thoroughly investigated.

This successful intervention marks the department’s second prevention of such events, as they were able to halt two parties back in May before they could take place. Wildwood police remain vigilant in safeguarding the community from any potential disruptions or incidents.
