There is a rumor going around today, that Wildwood was invaded by double decker buses from Walt Disney World…
Around noon time this afternoon, a special low riding flat bed tractor trailer arrived in Wildwood, carrying what people instantly recognized at a Bus from Walt Disney World…
Less then five minutes later, a second low riding tractor trailer arrived, carrying another, and we were being invaded by Double Decker Omni buses, from Walt Disney World.
The buses traveled a full day down the long interstate highways, and their telescoping canopies were lowered so the precious cargo could travel down the highways, without hitting overhead bridges.
Then, came the perilous thrill, of getting the cargo off of the Freightliners…
I had the honor of driving each Omnibus backwards down the ramps which were just wide enough for the tires to ride on…
Not exactly like a nice smooth drive down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, which I had driven so many times just 35 years ago….
Yes, I wore my Main Street hat to keep the event in theme during this procedure..!
The Twin buses, were then driven onto the near by parking lot, where their canopy frames were reinstalled…
But why are they here in Wildwood…?
And why are they here now…??
The answer comes from the current events we have been living with for the last three months…
Coronavirus….
While everyone has been scared of the pandemic, and going up the wall being sheltered at home for months, most folks have been hoping to escape the lockdown with the coming of Summer…
Summer is just about here, and many folks have already thrown caution to the wind, and have been coming to the boardwalk…
But things to do, have been limited, thanks to ongoing concerns about GERMS…
While outdoor activities have been returned for the most part, indoor activities have not returned…
Stores are just now being permitted to allow restricted amounts of patrons into the store, and amusement rides and games have remained closed.
Arcades may open at some point in July, but under what conditions, we do not know…
I, as an Arcade Operator, see that many are missing out on the fun which is part of Summer…
So I wanted to create some new OUTDOOR Activities for folks to experience, since inside activities may not happen this season at all…
In keeping with the preservation of all fun things I experienced in my life, I have brought the Main Street Omni Bus to Wildwood.
My goal is to give people rides around our area, perhaps with stops at the Wildwood Entrance Sign at the Boardwalk, Fox Park, Byrne Park, and the New Boardwalk drop off area on Cedar Ave.
I know folks always enjoyed riding the Main Street Omni Bus, when I got to drive her from Town Square, to Cinderella Castle, and I would like to create that same magic for folks here in Wildwood.
Coronavirus has even kept Walt Disney World closed, and I think we could all use a bit of fantasy that was always a major part of a trip to Disney…
So I have brought some Disney magic here, and I hope to share it with you soon….
Over my lifetime, I have brought many amazing things to life in what I do as an Amusement Entertainer…
No one in the Amusement Industry has done what I have done consistently over my 40+ years in the business…
And it has never been a business to me….
That is what makes me so different.
But my time remaining grows short as years pass…
I hope I can realize all the wonderful things I have hoped to bring to life before I am done, and that these things will live on for generations beyond me….
Preserving and recreating the Amusements of the past has been my life.
It was once my honor and privilege to have been an Iconic Cast Member in the world’s most popular Amusement Park, and I had the best job in all of Walt Disney World, being part of Main Street Operations…
Main Street was the center of the universe at the Magic Kingdom….
All parades, and Castle Shows were part of Main Street…
We had the Penny Arcade, the Main Street Cinema, and even the Walt Disney Story, honoring the life of Walt Disney…
Giving animated life to Main Street, were the Main Street Vehicles….
The 1903 Horseless Carriages, the Fire Engine, the Jitney, and best of all, The Main Street Omni Bus….
Steam Trains was a sister department to Main Street, as was the Horse Drawn Trollies, but since it would not be possible to lay trolly tracks on the streets in Wildwood, for a horse car…
And since it would be almost impossible to get a Steam Train, I did the next best thing…
I brought the Omni Bus to town.
I hope people will love it as much as I do.
