Is This Next for the Wildwood Beach?

By Boardwalk Bob Ingram

In an interview yesterday, Tuesday, with NBC-40 on the removal of the stakes from the proposed RV park site on the Wildwood beach across from the bocce court, Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano characterized the beach south of the Convention Center as “dead space.”

That space could become totally alive.

Above is an architect’s drawing of the massive entertainment and recreation complex that could be de veloped there.

The proposed project is to be built by Point Break Management Group, whose CEO is Wildwood Crest’s Jamie Peterson and which also involves Bill Morey, Sr., according to sources. A report in “Shore News Today” described Peterson as a cousin through marriage of Troiano.

Point Break was the only bidde r to run “beach amenities” for the site shown above, which will be worth $50,000 this year, with the potential for more as the contract is based on a sliding scale, again according to “Shore News Today,” in which Troiano was quoted as saying Point Break has had success in this type of project in California.

As is evident in the drawing, the project is an ambitious one with such “amenities” as a skating rink, stage, gym complex, Boardwalk cafe, volleyball courts, putting greens, driving range and pro shop, paintball course, water slide, vendor row, fire rings, and beach concessions. Other structures in the drawing remain unidentified.

In a brief E-mail response to a query from Watchthetramcarplease.com, Point Break’s Peterson said the beach project would be several years in the development.

Coupled with the 400-room, $100-million, year-round Pirate-themed hotel resort planned by local developer Andy Weiner for the North Wildwood Boardwalk, the Point Break project could literally change the face of the Wildwood Boardwalk and beach as we know it.
